The Television-Internet connection is happening!

Posted October 15th @ 10:49 am by Brett

An interesting story came in today written by Bill Tanner general manager of Hitwise. He points out like me that we have a close relationship with what we watch on TV to our general web browsing activities. Thanks to Bills’ article for the stats.  As Bill points to a study conducted by the Solutions Research Group, that states that roughly 37% of the

U.S. population over the age of 12 use their computers while watching television at home. This is a huge change and is now creeping into the radio space.

With the U.S. population exceeding 300 million (approx 20% are under 14) that creates a potential connection with of about 60 million for a computer-television group.  While they don’t know what these online television viewers are doing while watching TV, Internet usage data tells indicates to great opportunities for television programs to create interactive content. I’m still waiting to push my Green button to order my Pizza when I see an ad! Television sites receive roughly the same number of visits as sites in the travel category, almost twice the visits in the health/medical category. So what television websites are we going to? This week, Hitwise released the top 10 TV show sites to coincide with many season premieres.
